Where does the term "dimable" come from and where do we find it?

The term "dimable" is a loanword from the English language from the verb "to dim", which means "to adjust". This term can be found on the labels of many LED bulbs, but also on those of switches that have the property of being "dimmable".

Dimmable bulbs are popular due to their aesthetic and energy-saving potential. The ability to reduce brightness can completely transform the atmosphere of a room, while also providing reduced energy consumption.

What is a light fixture or bulb?

A dimmable LED light fixture or bulb allows the user to adjust the intensity of the light. This flexibility makes the light bulb suitable for any home, providing the desired ambience according to each person's preferences.

Adjusting the brightness is done, traditionally, by means of a variator. But the newest models of lighting fixtures are provided with own remote control or smartphone application, which allows you to adapt the light according to the room or the activity carried out. 

Example: If you want to read without straining your eyes, you can adjust the light to a lower intensity. For activities that require attention to detail, a bright light is ideal.

Why should you opt for dimmable bulbs?

• The flexibility of obtaining the desired environment: Dimmable LED bulbs are perfect for bedrooms or living rooms, offering the possibility of adjustment
  the intensity of the light to your liking, depending on the state and the activities you performed.
• Low energy consumption and long usage time: The lifetime of dimmable LED bulbs can reach up to 50,000 hours, significantly exceeding incandescent bulbs
  as well as life span. Also, they are much more efficient in terms of energy consumption:
  - In the case of incandescent bulbs, for example, only approximately 1-5% of the energy actually produces light, the remaining 95% being wasted in the process of heat dissipation. [1]
  - In the case of LED bulbs / strip, almost all the energy (100%) directly generates light, through the electroluminescence process. 
  Therefore, LED bulbs can be up to 20 times more efficient than classic incandescent bulbs.
• Control by phone / remote control: Smart dimmable LED bulbs can be controlled directly from the phone or from the provided remote control, eliminating the need for a dimmer.
