How to mount a chandelier?

Lighting fixtures elegant or traditional are absolutely essential to achieve a visual comfort inside your home. If you have already bought a chandelier and you want to install it yourself, you just have to carefully follow the steps below, to enjoy sure success. 

Lighting fixtures they are chosen depending on the size of the space in which they are placed and the required light level. Regardless of the chosen model, you can install them yourself easily, if you follow the installation process precisely, so that everything proceeds in conditions of maximum safety. Here's what you need to keep in mind:

Safety occupies the most important place, therefore you must be extremely careful when handling lighting fixtures. Before starting to mount the chandelier, you must cut off the power from the central system. If you only removed the fuses, then carefully check whether through the connecting cables current no longer flows.

If the lighting fixture is installed at a height, use a strong and stable ladder to eliminate any kind of risks from the start. Avoid climbing on chairs because it only takes a second of inattention and you can lose your balance. 

Make sure you always have dry hands when working with lighting installations and carry out the installation during the day, when natural light gives you a very good visibility. Regardless of the lighting body you want to install, do not use a bulb with a higher power than that indicated in the technical specifications of the product.

To mount a chandelier with one or more bulbs, depending on the model, you need a crank, drill and masonry drill, cable cutters, pencil, hammer, pliers, dowels and a screwdriver.

Because installation of lighting fixtures to be correct and safe, carefully follow the following steps:

  1. Location

Before starting the assembly, you must carefully check which is the best location. Climb a ladder holding the chandelier in your hand and position it at the level of the ceiling. There should be someone to see how it fits better from an aesthetic point of view, if it should be mounted more to the right or left, higher or lower, depending on each individual situation.

  1. Fixing to the ceiling

The first time you have to install the support system in the ceiling and then fix the chandelier. The technical fixing elements may differ depending on the chosen model, but usually the fastening is done with a metal clip to which you attach the support cable. I am too chandelier models with a different fastening system, i.e. through hollow screws. In this case, you have to make a hole in the ceiling with a drill and carefully install the fixing dowel. The chandeliers are also fixed in the gypsum ceiling with the help of dowels. 

  1. Electrical connection

After you cut off the electricity in the house, connect the power wires of the chandelier to those coming out of the ceiling and fasten the screws well with the help of a screwdriver. Place the support on the ceiling as close as possible to the wires, to be able to connect them easily and to be able to mask the wires as well as possible.

The chandelier support usually has the shape of a funnel or a cylindrical profile, to be able to hide the wires as easily as possible, obtaining an attractive aesthetic appearance. After placing the cables, raise the support until it touches the ceiling and firmly tighten the screw at the base, perfectly fixing the lighting body in the ceiling. 

  1. Installing the bulb

Usually, in order to mount the bulb correctly, you have to remove the lampshade. Be careful where you place it so as not to break it. Mount the bulb, making sure it is clean, before putting the lampshade back in place. Now the chandelier is ready for use, so you can fully enjoy a soft and relaxing light for the eyes.

  1. tESTING

Turn on the electricity in the house and light the chandelier. If you have a system with several bulbs and intensity levels, carefully check the entire ignition process, to be sure that everything is going well.

In the case of smart lighting fixtures, also test the remote control to be sure that there is no problem and you can activate the light from a distance. 

Take into account all these aspects and carefully test the operation of the lighting fixture to make sure that you have done a correct assembly and the result obtained is up to the level of your expectations.
